mid-May to mid-August 2003: Cycled from Nelson, BC following rivers in the Columbia and Fraser basin, and the Icefields Parkway in the canadian rocky mtns. See an account of the first 3 weeks of this journey at www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/kootenayriver2003
December 2001, January 2002: Cycled a loop through southeastern Arizona from Phoenix back to Phoenix, followed by a week of hiking in the Grand Canyon. Click here to view my Arizona Scrapbook.
Summer 2000:
June 2000: Cycled from Nelson, BC to the Pacific Ocean via the Kettle Valley RailTrail and various connecting roads.
July and August 2000: Cycled, with my friend Karen, from Prince Rupert, BC to Inuvik, NWT, the most northerly place in Canada accessible by road.
September 2000: Cycled from near Victoria, BC to the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, then down the Sunshine Coast to Vancouver, BC, then to Osoyoos, in BC's southern Okanagon.
Summer 1992: Walked along the continental divide from the US border into the Teton Wilderness, south of Yellowstone.

Summer 1990: Walked along the continental divide from the US border to near Banff, Alberta.
Summer 1989: Walked across southern British Columbia, from near Tofino on Vancouver Island to the continental divide near Banff, Alberta.
Summer 1986: Walked (with some hitchhiking) from Port Angeles, Washington, along the coast and then into the Sierras of Northern California, finishing in the Trinity Alps.

A few shorter Journeys - less than three weeks - worth mentioning
June/July 2007: A long weekend spent cycling and hiking with my friend Karen in the Incomappleux Valley, an amazing and unfortunately threatened inland rainforest north of Nelson, BC. See journal at www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/incomappleux
August 2004: Cycled from Castle Junction (between Lake Louise and Banff in the Rockies) via Kananaskis and the Elk Valley back home to Nelson, BC.
July 2004: 2 1/2 weeks of backpacking in the Canadian Rocky Mountains from Lake Louise to south of Banff.
June 2003: 5 day backpack on the Juan de Fuca trail, along the west coast of southern Vancouver Island.
August 2001: 8 day backpack with Karen, over Jumbo pass into the east Kootenays then back to the west Kootenays via the Earl Grey trail.
Summer 1999: Backpacking trip with Karen to map a route along the ridgeline between West Arm Park and the Harrop/Procter area - I actually got paid for this one!
February 1995: Walked across the Cape in southern Baja, through the desert and the Laguna Mountains, from Todos Santos to Santiago, as part of a longer trip through Baja, Mexico.
Summer 1988: 2 week solo backpacking trip through the cascade mountains on both sides of the border (Canada/USA); 1 week backpack with a friend in the Stein Valley; and one week backpack with my father on the West Coast Trail (south to north).
